Quercus | Quirk
Sheephouse copse November 2024.

I am delighted to be able to share with you the commission painting I created working with Lord Wandsworth College on the invited residency during November 2024. Following discussions with Graham Mobbs and Adam Williams the work developed around Quercus a significant Oak tree located in Sheephouse copse, hidden within the 1200 acre estate. The teaching of Kurt Hahn has a particular resonance for the college and became part of the thought behind the commission.

'There is more - in you - than you think.'
Kurt Hahn.

Poet Mark Goodwin and Photographer Nikki Clayton were able to join me for the residency, Mark has responded to the experience with the poem 'Quirk'. Nikki documented the time spent in Sheep house copse through a series of photographs. A wonderful autumn hidden within an incredible landscape with collaborators and engagement with students sharing the experience.
